Bill Gates Donates $159 Million to Indonesia for Health, Tech, and Social Programs
Billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has contributed a total of $159 million in grants to support various development initiatives in Indonesia, President Prabowo Subianto announced on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta following Gates’ official visit, President Prabowo shared that the funding—distributed over several years beginning in 2009—has gone toward critical areas such as healthcare, agriculture, technology, and social programs.
“He has generously donated $159 million to Indonesia,” Prabowo told reporters. “Of that, $119 million was dedicated to healthcare, $5 million to agriculture, $5 million to technology, and more than $28 million to cross-sector social initiatives.”
The visit drew a notable gathering of Indonesian leaders and business figures, including Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Foreign Minister Sugiono.
Gates, through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has long been an advocate for global health and sustainable development, and his financial support to Indonesia reflects his ongoing commitment to improving lives in developing nations.
This multi-sector donation comes at a time when Indonesia is pushing forward with ambitious goals for health reform, digital transformation, and rural development.
Gates' contributions are expected to further accelerate these national efforts and build long-term impact for millions of Indonesians.
