Valheim dedicated server: How to set up a dedicated or local server for Valheim multiplayer co-op. Valheim is one of the most exciting new survival games in years, offering you a variety of Viking lives: meads, ships, swords, and obsessiveness with family details. If you want to participate in a competition with up to 10 people, then Valheim is the best choice. Here is how to set up a Valheim dedicated server or how to host Valheim multiplayer games locally. First, your multiplayer options can be confusing, especially when you need to transfer the world from one type of multiplayer service to another.
Valheim allows players to host games locally from their computers, store the game world as their files, and essentially just invite others to enter their game world for instant collaboration. This is good for couples or groups of three who only play together.
Valheim dedicated server is another option, you can set up a separate client to host the server for others and yourself, even if you are not online. If your Viking crew cannot always meet at the same time or there are many people, then a server dedicated to Valheim is the best choice. Some people like to rent a server from a hosting provider, so keep reading this guide to decide if you want to bother or prepare to host a server yourself.
Put down some basics, this is how the Walheim multiplayer game works: you can take any character and its role from one game to another. This allows them to improve their skills everywhere, but please be aware that if you log out before retrieving a world, or if a mourner prevents you from retrieving it, any equipment you lost in a world will still be Lost in another world. Wallheim developer Iron Gate AB recommends setting up a separate character for single-player and multiplayer games, and those who are very cautious might want to do this.
With each new player entering the game, the enemy will become more difficult. When players leave, they will become more relaxed. Some players report that decreased resource levels are more generous when playing solo, although I can't confirm this with some easy test trials.
Local hosting in Wallheim
If you only play Walheim multiplayer games with one or two other players, then you will never play separately, and the dedicated server may be too many. As long as you have someone with the best internet connection and host the most powerful gaming platform. Here's how to host it locally in Wallheim:Others can now search for your server under "Join Game" and enter a password to connect.
How to join the Valheim server
After selecting the character, the second tab on the menu is "Join Game". This way, you can either view the servers hosted by your Steam friends or search for community servers and join in this way. Either way, you need to enter the password.Set up a Valheim dedicated server
You can install Valheim dedicated server on any PC. Some people will put it on a secondary computer, and some people will be on the same computer where they are used. This is a good idea, and it depends on you, how well your Internet connection is and how powerful your gaming PC is. Walheim is not too demanding for the game, nor is it running a server, but combined, they will put pressure on the quality of the connection between most machines and other players. In my experience, a machine with a 15-year-old processor stutters a lot when three players are connected, but becomes unplayable when playing more content. A computer with 2013 Intel i7 can reduce its speed by 100 Mbps, and it can reach an Internet speed of 10 mbps when connected to five players. There will be occasional lags or pauses. Therefore, an old backup PC or your Media construction may be the ideal choice.
To set this up, you need to know how to do port forwarding and how to find the IP of the server computer, which means you may need administrator access to the router.
How to set up a dedicated Valheim server
1. Select the PC you want to use, then install or open Steam.
2. Switch to the "Tools" menu then search the Steam library and find the Game "Valheim", you will see Valheim on dedicated servers. Install Valheim and then install the Valheim Dedicated Server. However, you won't run it from your Steam, so you need Steam to play Valheim yourself on another PC or another PC.
3. Go to the folder where the Valheim dedicated server is installed.
4. Now, you need to create an environment to be used, or if this environment is on another PC, transfer the environment you used before to the server. If you are hosting from the same PC you have been playing with, please skip this step. Navigate to the Windows user folder: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds. Transfer files from this folder to the same folder on the server PC.
5. Now, you need to edit the server startup script file, which is located in the folder where Valheim Dedicated Server is installed. The default value is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim dedicated server. In it, you will go to a batch file called "start_headless_server". Right-click the file and edit it.
6. Now, the content in this line is similar to "start valheim_server -no graphics -batch mode -name X -port 2456 -world X -password X -public 1", except that X is the information you have entered.
7. You need to change it so that the X after the name is the server name you want-it cannot be your world name. The X after that is the name of your world save-it cannot be the same as your server. The password is... well, no matter what you want the password to be, it cannot contain the world name or server name. (Again, you must enter a password.)
8. If you want the server to be displayed in the community server list, please keep the number 1 after public. Otherwise, change it to 0.
9. Save. Now back up the start_headless_server file, because when the game is updated, it will clear the file and you need to replace it. You can now exit the editor.
10. Now, you must open the port on the server PC to allow the connection. Go to the router software and open ports 2456-2458 TCP/UDP on the PC running the server. The host port should be 2456. If there is a firewall on the server PC, these ports must also be opened on the firewall.
11. Now, start the server by double-clicking "start_headless_server". This will open two windows, one window contains the server log, the other window is your choice, if you want to stop the server, press any key to stop the server. (Why stop the server? Update. Otherwise, don't do it! The whole reason for running a dedicated server is that it always exists.)
12 Look! now players can join your server i.e. Once your server is viewing online, sometimes it may take 10 to 15 minutes to update the community server list. If it never appears, it may be because you include the name of the game world in the server name or password ... or by mistake. If this happens, try the next step.
13. If you change the public number to 0, one must use the Steam server browser (found under "View"> "Server" on the Steam client in the "Favorites" tab) and then use the added "Add Server" button.
14. The server IP address is the external IP of the server PC, with the correct port at the end of the IP, such as XXX.XXX.X: 2457.
Congratulations! You are all ready to participate in the multiplayer game Valheim. Now, keep building. When your friend who sent this article set up the server, do I recommend reading something similar to our "Walm Getting Started Guide"? Maybe it's an elegant tour of the Vikings?
